Recipes for beef stroganoff are everywhere and easy to find, but almost everyone latches onto a recipe that they have tried and loved. They continue to use the same recipe over and over again. However, you can easily change up your favorite recipe and make it significantly different and more novel without changing the base that makes the recipe so good.
NEW ADDITIONS
By keeping the sauce base the same and changing the shape, size of texture of the pasta you can change the entire look and feel of the dish. Additionally, try adding vegetables that are less commonly seen in beef stroganoff. Try adding water chestnuts and baby corn ears for an interesting look. Sprouts are another idea. Add an entire can of stir-fry vegetables for some color and texture. With the exception of bell peppers, most stir-fry vegetables are mild enough that they will not overpower the sauce flavor, and the peppers will act to complement it.
A SIMPLE SIDE
Since stroganoff is already a somewhat heavy dish with thick sauce, noodles and beef chunks, it is best to balance it out with a light soup or similar dish. A simple butternut squash soup recipe will do the trick nicely and requires only a few ingredients. For extra flavor, you can add different types of vegetables. The mild squash flavor will complement the beef well, but if you added other types of veggies to the stroganoff, a hint of them in the soup will add some cohesion to your meal. If you want the soup to be a little more substantial, try adding some small chunks of beef or a small amount of noodles.
Like many classic dishes, sometimes cooking the same stroganoff over and over gets to be a bore. With so many ways to switch it up, there is no reason that your favorite recipe has to stay exactly the same over the years. Change it around and make it new again to add some life and some great flair to your stroganoff.
